For myself I only have one great experience in my work life so far (I am 53) was obtaning my Ph.D, and several smaller achievments. Anyway this is not about me, it is about some much younger person who may have a goal that they have been working on for 10 years or so (or a long time) and have decided to take the “hill path” over the “mountain path” for the second time and I can see from my own experiences this will lead to going over the hill and wading in the swamp with mud and swamp creatures!
If you are at such an important life stage as this young person take the mountain path with a guide or two, everytime; over a hill path. Though there are dangers involved, the journey getting there will be exciting and the summit breathtaking! Well worth the effort.
Effort and a little talent is the way to success. 99 percent talent and 1 percent effort will get you there, but more often than not the talented people think they have plenty of time and sometimes don’t make it, unfortunately. No matter who you are and what you are doing, put 100 of effort in and when you succeed be pleased in that. If you fail, you can always try again…But if you simply cannot do it (it’s beyond you and you have asked several knowlegeable people for advice on the subject and you have thought about it yourself deeply) then pivot/change and do something else.
For this young person I can see, he needs to take the mountain path and put 100% of effort in and I believe he will achieve his goals. Then, he can decide what he wishes to do in the future should he wish to continue in that direction or pivot to something else.
Good luck on your journeys!
P.s. I would talk to this young person directly, but I am being restricted due to my poor verbal communication skills. I hope this helps someone else in a similiar circumstance. Good luck!
Positive constructive feedback is welcome!
